Does MimioConnect offer any lessons to teach my students about Thanksgiving?

Answer:

MimioStudio is a great way to develop lessons on any subject, but is great for themed lessons. Using the interactivity of MimioStudio, you can create cross-curricular lessons for your students that are interesting and engaging for students of all levels.

Be sure to explore some of the many wonderful Thanksgiving lessons developed by our MimioConnect users to teach your students about this important holiday.

The first lesson titled, The Harvest Ceremony: The First Thanksgiving was created by Cameron Nichols. This lesson is a great example of how a teacher can create activities in which students manipulate and interact with content using the selector tool from the Mimio Toolbar. The Harvest lesson also features a number of pull down menus that can be used as effective interactive teaching tools in all subject areas. Be sure to explore the interactive map on page 6 that will surely engage your students. The Harvest lesson also includes MimioVote questions and hyperlinks to interactive websites.

Another lesson to explore during this November was created by all4kidz. The lesson simply titled, Thanksgiving engages students with many options from a main menu. Hyperlinks allow students to choose what they want to learn from several categories such as Pilgrim or Native American food, clothing, education, or games. Embedded Flash activities make the lesson easy to use, and extremely interactive. Students can also read and listen to poems about about Thanksgiving, and see the trip taken by the Mayflower.

As a teacher the ability to customize and create your own lessons is important. If you are planning to teach your students about the Thanksgiving holiday this November, please be sure to also check out our new Thanksgiving Pack! This amazing gallery file contains fun images, templates, multimedia, lessons and activities that engage students in Thanksgiving. Use the templates, clipart and multimedia to create your own Mimio lessons or use our pre-made lessons/activities in the Lessons tab.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Question:

Can my students use MimioStudio to complete a project?

  • Submitted By:
    Joe Raso
  • Date:
    Nov. 7, 2012

Answer:

Thank you for such an excellent question Joe! Over the years, I have worked with many teachers who have had students use MimioStudio Notebook software to create various projects. In some of the schools that I have been in, MimioStudio software has been installed in all of the computer labs to give students access to this amazing interactive software. Students can also download the trial version of MimioStudio to use at home by clicking here

The great thing about students using MimioStudio to create a project is that not only can they present information to other students, but they can also make their projects dynamic and interactive. Some of the student lessons that I have seen in the past involve students researching information about a topic, presenting that information in MimioStudio Notebook, and then creating some sort of interactive activity for other students to complete within the project. Students include activities such as Vote template questions, drag and drop activities, and a variety of uses of the Mimio pen and highlighter tool. Each student file can then be combined into a dynamic MimioStudio based jigsaw activity that can be used in the lab, at home, or at the board.

A sample lesson that features this type of student created activity would include the “Deciding Congress”lesson. In this lesson, students use MimioStudio in order to present research about state and local candidates in the recent election. While the election may be over, this lesson demonstrates how students can use MimioStudio to showcase their learning.

With Veterans Day this weekend, you may also want to examine the “Veterans Day”lesson.

This is a lesson that I created last year to teach my students about the importance of Veterans Day. In this lesson after some interactive instruction, students use MimioStudio software to create a “tribute page” to a Veteran they wish to thank for their service. These individual student pages are then combined by the teacher into one .ink file. The file serves as a digital “THANK YOU” for their service.

Mimio would like to thank all of our Veterans for their service!

Question:

Is it possible to clone text within my lesson?

  • Submitted By:
    Mary Aleman
  • Date:
    Nov. 5, 2012

Answer:

Great question Mary!

The cloning tool is one of my favorites - I use it in almost every lesson I create. This is one of the great features of MimioStudio!

In order to clone text, you simply need to choose it on your notebook page (make sure it is not locked), right click, and choose 'Clone'. At this point, you should see a blue border around your text. Place it where you would like it to be on your page, and lock it. Your text is now cloned, and can be used in your activity.

You can also see the cloning tool in action in the third video of this series: http://www.mimioconnect.com/content/lesson/13618/how_do_you_get_school

As always - make sure you have the most updated version of MimioStudio software. With MimioStudio Notebook open, go to Tools>Settings>Software Update>Check for Updates.

Keep those great questions coming!

Question:This is my first time using Mimio to create a presentation for my students. I would like to put a link to a video to my lesson. I would also like an icon in the corner of each page to change to the next page or return to a previous one.

Answer:This short video demonstrates how to insert hyperlinks in your MimioStudio Notebook lessons. This video will demonstrate how easy it is within MimioStudio software to create a hyperlink. Hyperlinks within MimiStudio can allow you to quickly access websites, files on your computer, attachments within your .ink file, and to other pages in your Mimio lesson.

To add a hyperlink to your lesson, simply do the following:

  • Use the "select" tool to choose the object or text in your lesson you would like to hyperlink.

  • Right click then click "hyperlink." You can also click "Insert" and then "Hyperlink"

  • Now use the "Insert Hyperlink" pop up window to assign the hyperlink. You can link to an outside website, a file on your computer, an attachment within your Notebook file, or another page within your lesson.

    Answer:

Such a great question! If you look directly underneath the main menu on MimioConnect (where all of the links are located) you will see a drop down menu where you can select the standard you are wishing to search for as well as the subject and grade level. Once your search parameters are entered, click on “FIND” and a list of lessons available on MimioConnect will appear.

    Answer:

This is a great question - and something that's very easy to do. All you need to do is open a notebook page. Once opened, click on the Tools menu from the top menu bar, then Settings, and then Interactive. Over to the right you will see the boxes labeled "Action" and "Function." This is where you can choose your preferences for the buttons on your stylus. Don't forget to click on "apply." when done.
