Question:

How do you add a button that the kids can touch to go to the next page in a lesson? My kids cannot reach the blue arrow at the top of the board.

Answer:

This is a great question - and very easy to accomplish. Did you know you can move that toolbar with those blue arrows? To move your toolbar, all you need to do is choose 'View' on the toolbar, then 'Standard Toolbar' and choose where you want your toolbar to be. It's that simple! Using this option, you can place the toolbar at the bottom of the page, to the side, or even make it 'float' so you can move it where ever is most accessible for your students. Now even the smallest users can access those great lessons you create with MimioStudio!

Question:

How do you annotate on top of a word document?

  • Submitted By:
    Bridget S.
  • Date:
    Nov. 22, 2013

Answer:

Annotating a file is so easy! First, open up the File you wish to annotate (I believe you are using a Word Document). Next, position everything on the screen the way you would like (once you freeze the screen you are unable to zoom, scroll down etc.) Now, press on the Screen Annotation on your Toolbar (the last button, lower right hand corner). Your screen will now freeze and you are able to annotate everything using the various tools on your Toolbar. Once you have completed your annotations simply press ESC on your keyboard or right click and select “CLOSE.” You will find a copy of your newly annotated page in your Gallery inside the Screen Annotations folder.

Question: With the 50th anniversary of the Kennedy assassination coming up next week, does MimioConnect have any lessons to help me teach my students about Kennedy's presidency?

  • Submitted By:
    RJ Sovie

Answer:

The Kennedy assassination was one of the most shocking and significant events in recent U.S. History. However, today's students are largely unaware of the events surrounding President Kennedy. As the 50th anniversary of that sad day approaches, it is an excellent time to teach students about JFK's presidency.

MimioConnect offers several resources that you will find useful when teaching your students about President Kennedy.

You might want to start with To the Best of His Ability: John F. Kennedy

This interactive lesson engages students in the historical events that took place during the presidency of John F. Kennedy. Students must use high level thinking skills to evaluate decisions made by President Kennedy during his time in office. I have found that this lesson works great with Mimio Mobile and MimioVote!

This short video demonstrates how this lesson was created!

You might also be interested in using the U.S. Presidents Gallery Pack! when teaching about President Kennedy and other U.S. presidents.

Question:Does MimioConnect offer any resources to teach students about voting in elections?

  • Submitted By:
    Ken Blaze
  • Date:
    Nov. 1, 2013

Answer:

Thank you for your excellent question Ken!

Even in a non-presidential or midterm election year, the first week of November reminds us that Election Day is right around the corner. This time of year, many Social Studies teachers are looking for a way to teach their students about the election process. As a Social Studies teacher myself, I would recommend checking out the: Who Can Vote In Elections? lesson.

This lesson was recently adapted from the: Mimio Get Out The Vote Series created in 2012. This interactive lesson covers basic voting requirements. It also stresses the need for active participation in government in order to have a strong democracy.

This lesson works well with MimioVote and MimioMobile. It can also be easily edited within your MimioStudio Notebook to meet your specific classroom needs.

Question:

I create my math lessons on Mimio. I want to post them to my web site as a PDF so my students have access to them from home. How can I do that?

  • Submitted By:
    Larry H.
  • Date:

Answer:

What a great idea! To do this go to FILE>SAVE AS in MimioStudio Notebook and then at the bottom of the SAVE AS menu you will see FILES OF TYPE. Drop down that menu and select PDF from the list there. You will have the option to save the current page, all pages, or a selected page range. You are also able to select the picture size. Once you've selected the above options simply click on OK and you now have a PDF copy of your lesson. Just be sure to save your original lesson first as a regular .ink file before saving it in another format!

Question:

Is there a way to do a partial screen shot?

  • Submitted By:
    Angie Dolan
  • Date:

Answer:

Screen clipping is a great tool to use in your MimioStudio lessons. You can find this valuable tool on your MimioStudio Toolbar - if you click on the 'Insert' icon (4th icon on the right side of the Tool Bar) you will also see a 'Screen Clipping' option. When you choose this tool, you can clip an entire page, or just part of a page or image. You can do the original rectangular clip, or choose an oval, or shape specific (freehand) clip.

Happy clipping!

Question:

I seemed to have lost the Mimio tools. How do I get it back?

  • Submitted By:
    Tracy S.
  • Date:
    Sep. 15, 2013

Answer:

Excellent question and one that we see quite often. It is possible that the toolbar gets hidden between different applications you have open if you are switching back and forth. You should be able to open up for Toolbar from TOOLS>MIMIOSTUDIO TOOLS in the top menu of notebook, from the shortcut on your computer or from the paintbrush icon in the lower right hand corner of MimioStudio Notebook. If for some reason you are still not able to find it I would save your document and close out of Notebook completely and then reopen it.
