Using the concept of a magic e and a silent e students deteremine if a word is has a short or long vowel in it. They then apply the short and long vowel rules to add a suffix. Suffixes include ing, ed, er, en, est.

I really like this lesson. I found a couple of spelling errors on slide 7, so if you download this file you may want to fix those errors before using.
