How do I create my own reveal files?

Hello. I'm interested in learning how to create my own reveal files this summer. I noticed that the gallery files end with an .mcf. What kind of program would I need to create this kind of file? Thanks.

Reveals

The reveal files you see in the gallery (and those created by users on MimioConnect) are created using Flash animation. If you have that software, and can create animations, you can create reveal files of your own. There are so many gallery files already available with reveals - you may want to check them out before trying to create your own. Why reinvent the wheel? Use the search box on MimioConnect, and type in 'reveals.' You'll get quite a few ready-made files to download!

Reveal Files

Wow... Lots of great suggestions and ideas. I am wondering if these can be created in Camtasia Studio. I believe that it is doable but if anyone as already done this... would you please post to the forum. Really excited about creating some really neat reveal tools.

Did Camtasia Studio Work?

I'm at a point where I'd like to be learning to create and actually be creating some "Flash" type tools myself and am trying to figure out what software to use to do that. Was wondering if you tried using Camtasia and if it worked.

Thanks

Thank you for the quick replies. I'm going to look into different flash animation software. I was looking for a card-flipping reveal several months ago and when I couldn't find one, that's what prompted me to want to make my own. Thanks again.

Flash

Thanks for asking this question as I have been wondering the same thing! I love all the reveals that Mimio has to offer, but would love to use a diverse group of them to keep the kids interested. Please keep us posted on how your flash creations are going....and please share them too!

Creating own reveal files

Hi-

I can add onto Jesus's great response. Mimio Studio supports flash files but doesn't give the user the ability to create them within the software. Just as Jesus has said, those files are created outside of Mimio Studio and imported in as part of the gallery package. Mimio is continually working on ways to help educators with the tools and resources they need and that's why you'll see new gallery content be posted periodically on MimioConnect for all of us to download and benefit from. Many of these gallery content packs come with flash files included to enhance the content topics. With this being said, users do have the ability to create some gallery content fairly easily. Let's say that you are putting together a lesson on landforms and you take photos of all types of landforms while on vacation. You want to include them in the lesson but also would like to save them in your gallery for future reference. Here is where you create your own .mcf file or gallery file. Once you have the picture(s) on a particular notebook page they can easily be dragged into a folder (existing or new)in the gallery. They will now be there for the next time you need to use them and you've just created your own gallery content. I would encourage you to take a look at the Ask a Master section on MimioConnect and peruse through the questions and responses because you'll find some great suggestions on how you can customize your own gallery as well as many more tips for utilizing your Mimio Studio most effectively. Good luck and should you need any further assistance, don't hesitate to submit your own "ask a master" question.

Flash Files

Hello,

You are actually talking about two different files. A Flash file has an extension of either .fla or .swf depending on whether it's the source code or the executable. You need Adobe Flash to create them. There are other alternatives and easier tools to use and learn such as the ones offered from this company, www.sothink.com.

One you create the .swf file with any tools, you can then import it into the gallery and create an .mcf (media content file) which is a mimio gallery extension. It's basically a container that has the swf and other descriptor files such as an .xml and picture file. You create this one by clicking on the export file button on the gallery toolbar. This is the easy part.

I hope I have answered your question.

Thanks,

Thanks for the tip and the

Thanks for the tip and the alternate website. I find Flash to be quite cumbersome at times and would love an easier alternative.
I wonder if there are any other free alternatives out there?
