MimioVote as a Buzzer/Ringer

Looking for a way to use the MimioVote / Studio as a buzzer/ringer. Would like to have it by order of ringing in.

Any suggestions?

Good Idea

I have had people ask how they can use the MimioVote devices as "buzzers". This sounds like a good work-around. Thanks for the detailed explanation. I will have to give this a try.

MimioVote as buzzer

What I have done for my classes in the past is in MimioStudio Gradebook, I create a new class that I use just for this. I used this for Jeopardy review before tests so I simply called it Jeopardy. I then set up six students as I would have my typical class of 24 divided into six groups of four. Instead of student names, I would just enter numbers 1-6 for last names leaving everything else blank. This will allow the list to sort correctly from group 1-6 when clicking on the Last Name column in MimioStudio Gradebook. I had two monitors connected to my computer and would leave the Gradebook open on a screen that I could just see while my questions/content would be displayed on my projector/other monitor. I would then use the Quick Vote mode by selecting this in MimioStudio. For each question I'd ask, I'd turn on Quick Vote and choose either a T/F question or Multiple choice. It doesn't matter since you are going to determine who presses a button first. I would randomly choose different methods just to keep my kiddos thinking. The trick to doing all this is with the current software, there isn't a way to determine who clicks in first or by order. What I did is pay attention to my Gradebook for each question as you can visually see when they press buttons and indicate who pressed in first, second, etc. I'm sure I wasn't always correct in my determination of who was first, etc but with kids not seeing the order, they didn't challenge anything. It would be difficult if you didn't have sort of multiple display as you need to be able to see the gradebook. This worked for me and it was successful even though it required a bit of work on my part. If you have any further questions on this, I'd be glad to help out. Just let me know. The MimioConnect community is very talented and if others have done something different, I would encourage you to add your ideas. On a side note, I think a feature like this would be awesome to have built into the software where you track order of entry for this purpose. As always, Mimio is very receptive to your ideas of improvements and you can submit your suggestions by visiting http://mimio.dymo.com/en-US/Support/ProductSuggestion.aspx.
