I have had my mimio since last Fall. I LOVE IT!! I teach first grade and it has helped engage students and keep them engaged. We are teaching a generation that has practically been born with a video controller in their hands. If the kids are used to fast paced video games at home, we need something up beat and fast paced in the classroom to keep their attention so that they can learn. I have a mounted projector, a document camera, the mimio, and a sound system in my classroom. However, I do fear that we, as teachers, may forget how to 'teach' without all the tech. We must still have that backup plan prepared for those 'just in case' days. For a few days this spring, our internet system was down. That was inconvenient, but not undoable. I just had to rearrange to show some united streaming videos at a later date. However, due to some virus issues within our network, we had to completely shut down our computers for a couple of days. THAT WAS A NIGHTMARE!!!! There went all the mimio lessons I had prepared, along with interactive websites, etc. That day made me think: I love my technology in the classroom, but are we depending on it too much?
Starting last year, I began using a proxima projector and I thought things couldn't get better. I was able to use dynamic online resources such as videos and interactive websites. Then I received a document camera and a whole new dimension was added to my lessons. I could show students model products wihtout having to make tranparencies for the overhead projector, I could save paper by projecting docs and students could use it for showing their work. Now I've added mimio and I feel like the sky is the limit. If I can imagine it, I can make it happen for my kids! I'm no longer bound by textbooks that do not fully line up with our state's standards - I can find my own dynamic resources using one of my fabulous tech tools!
I have not had my mmio very long but my kids love it and it has totally changed my way of teaching. I am always looking for more interactive and hands on learning activities for my room and this has provided that. I find that I am doing less and less on my whiteboard and everything with the capture kit or mimio.
We have used the Smart Board, but the mimio is so convenient....It can be transported so easily from one class to another. I especially like the recorder. It is soooooo effective in teaching math. When I'm working with the teacher, I use the recorder a lot to show them the necessary steps to added info. into mimio.
The students love using the interactive board.....it certainly keeps their interest level.
I love my mimio. It engages each student and maximizes their learning. It creates opportunities for collaborative learning. It opens their world through the intranet by interacting and experiencing different cultures. The mimio allows them to explore and react to their world. I’ve only had my mimio for six months, but it has totally changed my instruction.
I love using Mimio in my classes because it makes learning collaborative. The kids know to ask for help or to ask the class not to give them help. In the meantime, the other kids are chomping at the bit waiting for their turn. Since I only have 6 students in a class at a time (reading specialist), everyone gets a turn. Mimio lessons are a great wake up, don't be afraid to try activity.
I just started creating mimio lessons this year for my kindergartners. They love it! It grabs their attention and keeps them focused. I use lessons to introduce new math concepts (coins, solid shapes, addition, subtraction, etc.) and insert enough duplicate pages so that everyone can come to the board to practice. I have also made simple games like Memory or Tic-Tac-Toe, and I divide the class into two teams. This is a great way to practice and review skills before assessments. I cannot image teaching without mimo!
The greatest addition to technology in my district is the addition of the mimio. The students love it! I have the mimio tablet and let the students practice using it by creating a new page, writing their name, and erasing their name. It was like a holiday in my classroom. It has created a more engaging environment and more and more students are interested. Thanks mimio!
It allows teachers to have students create content to show mastery of lessons and to bring the material to the students so that they can directly interact with it!
Since most, if not all, of our students have the latest technological gadgets it places a greater "burden" on teachers to try and keep students involved and interested. Technology such as Mimio allows teachers to give students what is needed to keep them involved and interested.
My students do "push" me to stay on top of the technology wave. I like this though. I think they need to feel responsible for their learning as well and they love teaching me new things. My students love the mimio and really become active participants in the class when I incorporate technology into my lessons.
It is true that young age is the best time period of life as its the boom of beauty and all other things but i would like to add that at this stage a man/woman can do any thing . he or she can make possible to every thing so never wave of your studies and and your life objectives.

I'm on an ongoing eLearning journey with my class. We are using our classwork blog (we have a publishing blog too) to facilitate a lot of the learning.
The only time I'm doing upfront teaching is when I'm using the mimio (starter activities; brainstorming etc) or doing some whole class teaching (even then usually with mimio or an interactive website); the rest of the time I'm working either with small groups on the mat or working with small groups around their computer.
Jo,
I can easily see how this computer placement would impact how students work! In most of our elementary classrooms there are 5-7 student stations and because they are placed against the wall they ARE used during centers but not utilized throughout the day as an integral part of instruction and learning. Thank you for sharing......I have some ideas where this just might be easily accepted in the district....can't wait to share:)
Hi Lindy - this has been the key - I tried running groups where they had to move to the computer to use it/them but all that created was lots of traffic.
I've just finished up a blog post summarising the students reflection on our eLearning.
Agree with you since most, if not all, of our students have the latest technological gadgets it places a greater "burden" on teachers to try and keep students involved and interested. Technology such as Mimio allows teachers to give students what is needed to keep them involved in bulk email hosting and interested.
